5 Items to Transform Your Guest Room
Got a guest room that needs some remodeling, or a spark of inspiration? Now, that the holidays are over, and you’ve got the mindspace (and time), we’ve got a few thoughts to whip your guest room into shape before your next set of guests arrive. Warning… the downside to following these tips: your guests may never want to leave
Install Blackout Window Treatments
While window treatments that offer more decorative appeal than light control are fine in some rooms of a home, that’s not the case in a guest room. We suggest that you provide blackout roller shades or linen drapes that allow your guest to literally black out the room. A guest in the home is on vacay, and will appreciate a dark room for sleeping in. If late nights are part of the itinerary blocking out early morning sunlight should be item #1.
Good Reading is a Must
Even though many of us try to pack something to read when we travel, it’s interesting to scope out the books of our friends and family when we stay with them. Throw in a few good read reads into your guest room just in case one them piques someone's interest. Plus they're cute. Books are cute.
Create a Luxe Bed
No, we could not forget this one. The bed is the most important thing in the room, becasue everybody wants a fabulous night’s sleep. Top the mattress cover, and add the highest quality sheets you can afford. Simple rule to follow is: Cotton in the winter, and linen in the summer. Add a downy duvet in colder months and a lighter yet colorful blanket in the summer. You’re going to look like a superstar.
Water
One of the worst things imaginable for a guest is waking up to a parched throat in the middle of the night in a strange house — stumbling through the dark to get a swallow of water. Seriously, keep your guest from this tragedy in the making by leaving a bottle of sparkling or mineral water with glasses. Bonus points for adding a simple vase with a single stem flower, to serve as a reminder of nature. Anything fragrant will add a memorable touch.
Add Art
The art and photos you choose to display in your home are the pieces the tell the story of you. Your guest will love to feel surrounded by your energy and memories when they’re visiting. One trick we love to using the same frame for similar pieces or the same type of art. This will give a nice uniformed look and pull everything together.
