The easy way to measure for Roman Shades

Our range of Roman Shades presents you with the options to have exactly what you want and need. You’re going to love just how quick and easy it is to measure, so let’s get started!

Before you get going

Remember, Roman Shades can be mounted both inside and outside the window frame.

How do you want to control your Roman Shades?

Roman Shades can be controlled via a Cord, Continuous Chain, Cordless, "Top-Down, Bottom- Up" system, or Motorized. The Professional Grade options provide you with everything you need to optimize based on your window depth, budget considerations,, and practical needs.

Are your windows a "normal" size?

"Normal" for us means between 16-94" in Width and 18-94" Length. If your window is wider than 94", feel free to order our Oversized Product options or break your window treatment in multiple products. For products 94"+ in width, we recommend using our Continuous Loop or Motorized options.

Do you know what surface material your Roman Shades will attach to?

Please note that your brackets must be securely attached to the mounting surface. If your screws do not hit wood studs you’ll have to use a different fastener which can be found at any local hardware store.

The beauty of Roman Shades comes from their ability to maintain their appeal whether they are raised or lowered, ensuring your windows always look and feel stylish.

  • Seamless and modern look

Measuring up is easy; we just need to know five things - your depth, your width, your length, which side you'd like your control on and any minor obstructions. Here's how to do it:

1) Check your depth

Check that you have at least ¾" of flat surface area between the glass in your window and the edge of the window frame. If you have uneven trims, or a "beveled" area, please note that you will need a flat surface area to mount to, and double check your available depth.

2)Check your width

Because windows are not perfectly shaped, we recommend measuring the window in 3 places to get your width: across the top, middle and bottom. Round all measurements down to the nearest 1/8" interval. The smallest of the 3 measurements is your ordering width. Don’t make any deductions, we’ll do it for you so that you get a perfect fit.

3) Check your length

Measure the length of the window in 3 places on the window: left, center and right. Round all measurements up to nearest 1/8". The largest of the 3 measurements is your ordering length.

4) Choose your cord or chain side

Make a note of which side you'd like your cord or chain to be on. Think about which side is easiest to reach, obstruction free and where the cord or chain will be least visible. If you choose our Cordless or Top-Down, Bottom-up options, then this will not be necessary.

5) Order your custom shades online

You’re all set to order your Roman Shades!

Roman Shades that sit outside the frame are called Outside Mount

  • Usually attached to the part of the window frame facing you
  • Ideal fit for bedrooms, for enhanced darkness
  • Reduces incoming light in down the sides
  • Choose between chain driven control or traditional cord & cleat
  • Ideally utilized when you add a separate window treatment on the Inside Mount
  • Upgrade for a Cordless or Motorized control for effortless luxury, and a clean aesthetic

Measuring up is easy; we just need to know five things - your depth, your width, your length, which side you'd like your control on and any minor obstructions. Here's how to do it:

1) Measure your width

Measure the exact outside width of your window frame across the top, and write it down

2) Check your length

Measure the length of your window frame from the top of the frame down to where you’d like the blind to finish, and write it down. This may be at the bottom of the frame, just above the floor, or to match up with other blinds in your room.

3) Choose your cord or chain side

Make a note of which side you'd like your cord or chain to be on. Think about which side is easiest to reach, obstruction free and where the cord or chain will be least visible. If you choose our Cordless or Top-Down, Bottom-up options, then this will not be necessary.

5) Order your custom shades online
